surah 58 those who plea

(In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, Most Merciful)

 

O Muhammad, Allah has without doubt heard the plea of the person concerning

her spouse, and she has intended her plea to be heard by Allah.

Indeed, God hears your conversation;

for He is the All Hearing and All Seeing.

Those of you who declare your spouse unlawful to you,

saying she is like your mother – she is not your mother.

Mothers are the ones who gave birth to them.

And, indeed, they are making an offensive statement, as well as a falsehood.

But, indeed, God is the Most Forgiving and Most Sympathetic.

And, those who declare their spouse unsuitable,

 and then wish to go back on what they said,

there must be the equivalent of the freeing of a captive,

before they may touch one another again.

And, you are given a warning thereby,

and God is well acquainted with all you.

And, if there is no captive to free, then a fast of two months in length,

prior to them touching one another again.

And, if unable to fast, then feeding a meal to sixty needy people.

This is so if you Believe in God, and His Messenger,

and the laws He ordained.

And, for the DisBelievers there is a painful punishment.

Indeed, those who are in opposition to God and His Messenger

will be humiliated, as those before them were humiliated.

And, without doubt, We descended down verses with Clear Evidence for mankind.

And, for the DisBelievers, there will be a shameful punishment.

On the Day, God will resurrect them all and inform them of what they did in life.

God detailed it out for them, but yet they forget it,

and He is over all things, the Most Competent of Witnesses.

Do you not Believe that God Knows all that is in the Heavens,

and all that is on the earth?

He has Knowledge of all things, the Unseen as well as the Seen,

the Spoken, and the Unspoken.

And, He is with them in Knowledge wherever they may be.

And, on the Day of Resurrection, He will tell them of all they used to do.

Indeed, God is Knowledgeable and Aware of All things.

Have you not thought about those who have held private forbidden

 conversations where they ridiculed others and conspired against them,

returning to what they were forbidden to do,

talking among themselves about sin, and aggression,

in defiance against the Messenger?

And, when they greet you, they wish death upon you, rather than peace,

and they say among themselves, “Why doesn’t God punish us for what we say?”

Adequate enough is Hellfire for them, where they will enter to burn,

a miserable destination.

All you who Believe, when you talk privately among yourselves,

do not talk about sin and causing harm to others,

nor talk about being rebellious against the Messenger,

but rather, talk about what is right, good and devout.

And, fear God, to whom you all will one Day be gathered.

Private conversations about other people are from Satan,

so he may sadden those who Believe, but He

will not harm them unless it is by God’s leave to do so.

And, upon God, let the Believers depend.

All you who Believe, when you are told to, “Make room for others” in assemblies,

then do so, and when you are ask to “Stand up”, then stand up.

Allah will resurrect those who Believe among you,

and those who were given knowledge, by measurement.

And, God is well acquainted with all you do in life.

All you who Believe, if you wish to discuss something with the Messenger,

then give charity prior to the conference.

That is best for you, and genuine.

But, if you do not have the means to do so, know that God

is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

Do you fear coming before him without first making charity?

Then, when you do not and God has forgiven you,

then at least pray and give the required charity to the needy,

and follow God and His Messenger.

And, God is well acquainted with all you do in life.

Have you not thought about those who made friends with people

with whom God is angry?  They are neither of your faith,

nor are they of yours, and they knowingly make false promises to you.

God has gotten ready for them a painful punishment.

Indeed, it was wrong what they were doing.

They took their false promises as a means of cover for themselves,

and they turned people away from God’s Path,

and for them is a shameful punishment.

Never will their money, nor their children, benefit them before God at all.

They are Companions of the Fire, where they will dwell therein eternally.

On the Day when God resurrects them, they will promise to Him,

 as they promised to you,

 thinking that their lies will be believed.

Undoubtedly, it is they who are the imposters.

Satan has overcome them and then made them to forget God.

They are the gathering of Satan,

and unquestionably, they will suffer defeat.

Certainly, the ones who oppose God and His Messenger –

they will be among the most shameful.

God decreed, “I will surely defeat them, I and My Messengers.”

Indeed, God is the Most Powerful, and Most Exalted in Might.

You will not come across a people who Believe in God, and His Messengers,

who have any affection for those who are in opposition to God,

and His Messenger,

even if they are their fathers, sons, brothers, or other family members.

God has decreed for the Believers to have Faith in their hearts,

 and He has maintained them with the Spirit from Him.

And, We will welcome them to Gardens of Paradise, beneath which rivers flow,

wherein they will abide therein eternally.

God is pleased with them, and they with Him.

They are the gathering of those who Believe in God.

And, undoubtedly, those gathered by God are those who flourish.
