surah 31 luqman the wise

(In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, Most Merciful)

 

Alif, Lam, Meem.

These are the verses of the Knowledgeable Qur’an,

that is both Guidance and Mercy for those who do Righteous good deeds in life,

who establish regular prayer, and give due charity, and

 are steadfast in Faith and Believe in the Hereafter.

They are on Right Guidance from their Sovereign Lord God,

and it is they who will be triumphant in the End.

And, of the people, are some who take God’s Word as amusement

to mislead others away from the Right Path of Allah without any understanding

of it, and take it in mockery.

They will have a shameful punishment in the End.

And when Our Verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly,

as if he hadn’t heard them, as if he were unable to hear at all.

So, give him the news of the painful punishment of Hellfire.

But, those who Believe in God and do Righteous good deeds

for them are the Gardens of Bliss,

wherein they will abide eternally;

and the promise of Allah is the Truth.

And, He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Wise.

He created the Heavens to rest on invisible pillars,

and cast onto the earth firmly set mountains,

less they should quake under you,

and scattered thereon every living creature.

And, We descend down rain from the sky to give life therein

to every gracious kind of vegetation.

This is God’s creation.

So, demonstrate to me, what those other than God have created.

Really, those who do wrong are clearly mistaken.

And, We gave to Luqman Knowledge, saying, “Be thankful to Allah.”

And, whoever is thankful to Him, is thankful for his or her own benefit.

And, whoever rejects His blessings – then, really God is free of need of him.

And, God is the Most Praiseworthy.

And, Luqman said to his son while teaching him, “O my dear son,

do not associate any others with Allah.

For, undoubtedly, to associate others with Him is a great injustice.”

And, We have commanded mankind to care for their own parents.

The vulnerable mother carries the dependent baby in the womb,

weakness upon weakness, and he will be weaned within two years after birth.

Be thankful to God and to your parents; for to Him is the final destination.

But, if others try to lead you astray and associate others with God,

they have no knowledge of any divinity.

Do not follow them, but be with them in this world and treat

them with kindness, and follow the Path of those who turn back to Allah.

Then, to Him will be your final homecoming,

and I will let you know about all you used to do in life.

And, Luqman said, “O son, really even if a deed is the weight of a

mustard seed, or should be hidden within a rock, or anywhere in the

Heavens or on the earth; God is able to call it to mind.

Without a doubt, God is the most understated, the most acquainted of all things.

O son, establish regular prayer to Him, and do what is right,

and prohibit what is wrong, and be understanding of what befalls you in life.

Indeed, they are of the matters that require final Judgment from Him.

And, do not turn your face toward others in contempt,

nor walk on the earth boastfully.

For, in reality, Allah does not like people who are self-arrogant and narcissistic.

And, be moderate in your gait, and keep your voice lowered;

for really, the most distasteful sound is the sound of donkeys.”

Do you not understand that God has subjected to you all that is in the heavens

and the earth, and greatly bestowed upon you His Blessings,

 both the obvious and the obscure?

But, of the people are the ones who argue about God without any Knowledge,

or Guidance, or even a Book from Him.

And, when it is said to them, “Follow what God has Revealed,”

they reply, “No, instead we will follow what our forefathers did.”

Even if Satan was leading them to the punishment of the Fiery Blaze?

And, whoever submits his or herself to God while he or she does good –

then, he has embraced the most trustworthy stronghold.

And, to Allah will be the final outcome of all matters.

And, whoever has not Believed, then do not be saddened by him.

To Us is their Final Return, and We will let them know of what they did in life.

Without a doubt, God is All Knowing of what is in the hearts of mankind.

We grant them enjoyment for a set time; then We will

coerce them into a giant punishment of Hellfire.

And, if you asked them, “Who created all the Heavens and the earth?”

they would surely reply, “God.”

Say, “All praise and glory is due to Allah,”

but many of them do not know that.

To Allah belongs all that is in the Heavens and the earth.

Unquestionably, He is devoid of need, and is the Most Praiseworthy.

And, if the trees upon the earth were pens, and the sea was ink,

replenished by the seven seas, God’s Word will never wear out.

For, indeed, God is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Wise.

Your own creation, and your resurrection in the End, will not be

but that of your individual soul.

Undeniably, God is the All Hearing and the All Seeing in life.

Do you not know that God causes the night to descend upon the day,

and causes the day to descend upon the night,

and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running its course

for a specific term, and that God is well acquainted with all you do.

This is because God is the Truth, and those the polytheists call upon

other than Him are deception, and this is because

God is the Most Exalted, the Most Grand.

Don’t you see that the ships sail throughout the sea by God’s blessing,

 that He may demonstrate His Signs to you?

And, in reality, in that, are Signs for those steadfast in Faith and thankful to Him.

And, when the ocean waves overcome them like canopies in the wind,

they pray to Allah, sincere in Faith to Him.

But, when He returns them safely to the land, some are unthankful.

And, no one rejects Ours Signs except those who are dangerous and unthankful.

O mankind, fear your Sovereign Lord God, and fear the Final Day,

the Day when not even a father can help his own son, nor

will a son help his father at all. 

Without a doubt, God’s promise is the Truth,

so don’t be deluded by this wordly life,

and don’t be led astray about God by Satan.

Indeed, God alone has Knowledge of the Final Hour.

He descends the rain down from the skies giving life,

and Knows all that lie in the womb.

And, no soul knows what it will gain tomorrow,

nor know what land it will perish in.

But, unquestionably, God is the All Knowing, and Most Acquainted

with all matters in the Heavens and the earth.
