surah 25 the criterion

(In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, Most Merciful)

 

Blessed is He who descended the defining criteria upon His Servant, Muhammad,

that he may be to the worlds a bearer of good tidings, as well as warning –

He to whom belongs the command of the Heavens and the earth,

who is Exalted above having progeny,

and who has no equal in dominion.

And, Allah created every living thing,

and determined for each a precise term.

But, the DisBelievers take idols and gods besides Him who create nothing,

while they themselves had to be created,

and they possess neither benefit, nor can accomplish anything with Him,

and they have no power to create life or death, or resurrection.

 And, the DisBelievers say, “This Qur’an is nothing but lies he made up,

and others helped him with it.”

But, they are committing a sin by not having Faith in God, our Creator,

and are telling lies themselves about God.

And they say, “They are tales of former civilizations that he has written down,

and they are read aloud to him morning and afternoon.”

Say, O Muhammad, “It has been Revealed to me by God who knows

all secrets within the Heavens and the earth.

Without a doubt, He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”

And, the DisBelievers reply, “How is it that a Messenger eats food

and walks in the market?

Why wasn’t an angel sent down to him
 
so as to accompany Muhammad as a warner?

Or, is this a treasure presented to him from Heaven?

Or, does he eat from the Garden of Eden?”

And, the evil doers continue, “You follow nothing but a man taken up by magic.”

Look how they compared You with others,

but they have strayed from God’s Right Path,

so they cannot find a way.

Blessed is God, and, if He so Willed, He could create an even Better Way –

Gardens of Paradise, beneath which flowing rivers flow.

And, He could create for you palaces it if was His Will.

But, many reject the Final Hour,

and We have prepared for the DisBelievers a Fiery Blaze in that Hour.

When Hellfire sees them from afar,

they will hear its fury and raging.

And, when they are cast therein to a narrow area, bound in chains,

they will cry out therein asking for their own demise.

They will be told, “This Day do not cry for one death, but for the death of many.”

Say, “Is that a change for the better,
 
or how about the Garden of Infinity that the Righteous are promised?”

It will be a reward and destination for them.

For them therein is whatever they wish for; and, they will abide eternally therein.

It is ever upon your Sovereign Lord a requested promise.

And, on the Day He will gather mankind,
 
and that what they worshipped besides God,

and He will say, “Did you mislead these people, My followers, or did they

themselves stray from the Right Path?”

They will reply, “Exalted are You Lord God!

It wasn’t for us to take others besides You

as friends and protectors.  But, you gave comfort to them, and their fathers,

until they forgot the Message, and became a ruined people.”

So, some may reject you, O Muhammad, about what you say,

and you cannot avert punishment from them or help them.

And, whoever commits an injustice against Allah,

We will make him taste of the punishment of Hellfire.

And, We did not send any Messengers before you, but that also

ate food, and walked in the markets like you.

And, We have made some of you people as a test for others  - will you understand?

And, ever is your Sovereign Lord God, seeing of all things.

And, those who do not Believe in the meeting on the Day say,

“Why weren’t the angels descended down to us, or do we see our God?”

They are arrogant in matters of Faith, and imprudent with great disrespect for God.

On the Day they all see the angels, no good news will there be
 
on that Day for the DisBelievers.

And, the angels will say, “You are prevented from Heaven,
 
and it is inaccessible to you.”

And, We will come forward to them with all their deeds,

and We will make them disappear like dust.

But, the Companions of Paradise on that Day will have a better accounting,

and a finer resting place.

And, remind them of the Day when the sky will split apart with clouds,

and the angels will be descended in successive order.

And, the true Dominion on that Day will reside with the Most Merciful.

And, it will be a difficult Day on the DisBelievers.

And, on the Day, the one who has done wrong will bite at his own hands, saying,

“I wish I had followed the Messenger on the Way.

O misery to me!  I wish I had not taken Satan as a friend.

He led me away from the remembrance of Allah, after it had been given to me,

And, ever is Satan to mankind a forsaker.”

And, the Messenger said, “O My Lord God, without a doubt, my people

have abandoned this Qur’an.”

And, thus for every Prophet is an enemy from among the wrongdoers.

But, Your Lord God is ever sufficient as a Guide and Protector.

And, the DisBelievers say, “Why wasn’t the Qur’an Revealed to him

all at one time?”

It was so that We could strengthen your Faith thereby.

And, We have provided it with distinct spacing.

And, they all come to you with their arguments, but We provided to you

the Truth, and the finest enlightenment.

And, the ones who will be gathered lying on their faces to Hellfire –

they are in the most awful position, and farthest astray from the Right Path.

And, We most assuredly sent Moses with the Holy Scripture,

and appointed his brother, Aaron, as his assistant.

And, We said, “Go forward both of you to the people
 
who have rejected our Signs.”

Then, We destroyed the DisBelievers with ruin.

And, Noah’s people, when they rejected the Messenger,

they were drowned, and they were a Sign for mankind.

And, We have prepared for the DisBelievers, a painful punishment,

as with the ‘Aad, Thamud, the Shu’ayb people,

and the people in between them.

And, for each We provided examples as warnings to them,

and each civilization We ruined with total devestation.

And, We already came forward with an example of a village
 
showered with stones.

So, haven’t they see it?  But, they are not expecting resurrection on the Day.

And, when they see you, O Muhammad, they mock you saying,

“So, this the one God has sent as His Messenger?

He almost led us away from our idols had we not be resolute on them.”

However, when they see the punishment, they are going to understand

who is farthest astray from the Right Path.

Have you seen a person who makes his desires as his gods?

Then, should you be responsible for his believing or not, O Muhammad?

Or, do you think that most of them hear the Truth, and Believe?

They are like lost ones who have gone astray from the Way.

Haven’t you thought about your Lord God
 
– how He creates your shadow to extend out,

and if He Willed to, He could make it permanent?

Then, We made the sun for it as a Sign.

Then, We hold it in our hand for a brief time.

And, it is God who made the night as garments for you,

and sleep as rest, and created the day as resurrection.

And, it is He who compels the winds as good news of His Mercy,

and We descend pure rainwater from the sky

that We bring life thereby to a barren land, and give it as a beverage

to those We made of creatures and man.

And, We gave of it amongst them that they might be thankful,

yet, many people still refuse to Believe.

And, if We willed to, We could send a warner to every city.

So, don’t follow the DisBelievers,

and strive in Faith with steadfastness.

And, it is He who created the two kinds of water, one fresh and pure,

and one salty and bitter to the taste, and He set between them a partition.

And, it is Allah who created mankind from water,

and made him descendants and marriage.

And, ever is Your Lord God competent in matters regarding creation.

But, the DisBelievers worship others than God that will neither help them

or hurt them, and the DisBeliever is always against God a helper of Satan.

And, We have not sent you, O Muhammad, but as a bearer of

good news, as well as a warner to mankind.

Say to them, “I do not ask of you any payment for Belief –

only that whoever wills will follow the Lord God’s Way.”

And, always rely on the Ever Living who will never perish,

and exalt and give praise to Him.

And, He is Ever Acquainted with the sins of His followers.

He who created the Heavens and the earth in six days,
 
and everything in between them,

and then established Himself on the Supreme Throne of Authority –

The Most Merciful One,

so those who are well informed ask about Him.

And, when it said to them, “Bow down before the Most Merciful One.”

They reply, “And what exactly is the Most Merciful?

Why should we bow down to what you command?”

And, it increases their hatred.

Blessed is He who placed enormous stars in the skies,

and placed therein a luminous lamp, and glowing moon.

And, it is He who created the night and the day, one after the other in succession,

for whoever desires to remember Him, or wants to express gratitude.

And, the followers of the Most Merciful One are the ones who

walk gently on this earth,

and when the people who don’t know the Truth address them,

they reply with words of peace,

those who pray at night to their Sovereign Lord God,
 
bowing and standing in prayer,

and who say, “Lord, please save us from the punishment of Hellfire.

For indeed, it is an eternal punishment;
 
and it really is an evil settlement and dwelling.

And, the Believers are ones who when they spend money,

they don’t do so extravangantly,

but are always in between that, justly moderate.

They do not call upon any others than Allah,
 
nor kill another soul that Allah has forbidden,

nor engage in unlawful sexual relations.

And, whoever does so will have a punishment.

Multiplied for the DisBelievers is the punishment on the Day of Judgment –

and they will abide therein ashamed –

except those who repent to Him, and does Righteous good deeds in life.

For them, God will exchange their bad deeds for good ones.

And ever is Allah the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

And, he who repents and does Righteous good deeds,

indeed turns to God with repentance.

And, the Believers are those who do not testify to lies,

and when they pass by foul language, they continue by with dignity.

And, those who, when they hear the verses of the Sovereign Lord God

and they are reminded of Him.

And, they are not among those who are UnHearing and Unseeing to the Truth.

And, they who say, “O Lord, please give us spouses and children who are comfort to

our eyes, and make us leaders among the righteous.”

They will be given the highest level of Paradise for what they suffered unwearied,

and they will be welcomed with greetings of peace,

to abide therein eternally.  Fine is the settlement and home.

Say, “What would our Lord do with you, but for your prayers to Him?’

But, the DisBelievers have rejected Him,
