A Translation that includes The Last Sermon
surah 22 the pilgrimage
(In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, Most Merciful)
O mankind, fear your Sovereign Lord God.
For, without a doubt, the coming of the Final Hour really is a frightful thing.
And, on that Final Day you will see every nursing mother distracted from the baby
she was nursing, and every expectant mother will abort her unborn child,
and you will see people appearing drunk, while they are not,
and God's punishment can be severe.
And, of the people, there is he who disputes about matters of Faith,
without having having Knowledge thereto, and pursues every evil demon.
It has been commanded that for whoever turns to Satan – he will misguide them
from the Right Path, and he will guide him to the Fiery Blaze.
O mankind, if you should have reservation about Resurrection Day,
then consider that, without a doubt, We created you from special clay,
then from semen, then from clinging life substance in the womb,
and then from flesh, some to live and some not,
that We may show you of God’s Sovereign Power.
And, We create in the womb whom We will for a given term,
then We create you as a child, and later reach maturity as an adult.
And, among you is he who is taken early in death, and among you is he
who reaches great old age, so that he knows after having acquired great
knowledge, he really knows very little in retrospect in comparison to God.
And, you see the earth lifeless, but when We descend rain down upon it,
it trembles, and swells and grows life of every beautiful variety.
That is because God is the Truth, and He bestows life to the lifeless,
and because He is the Most Competent over all matters.
And, the Final Hour is approaching – there is no doubt about it –
and God will resurrect the buried from their graves.
And, of the people is the man who disputes about matters of Faith without any
Knowledge thereto, nor any Guidance, nor any enlightening book from him;
twisting his neck about in arrogance to mislead people away from God’s ways.
For him there is humiliation in this world, and on Resurrection Day, We will
make him taste of the punishment of the Burning Blaze.
It will be said to him, “This is punishment for what evil your hands put forth,
and because God is never unjust to His followers.”
And, of the people is the man is he who worships Allah half-heartedly.
If he is graced with good things, he is comforted by it; however,
if he is struck with adversity and trial, he turns against his Faith.
He will be Lost in this world, and in the Hereafter. This is an obvious loss.
He calls upon others besides Allah, who can neither help nor harm him.
That is what is obviously wrong.
He calls upon something whose detriment is closer to him than any assistance –
how evil the guardian, and how evil the friend he has selected.
But, God will welcome those who Believe in Him, and do righteous good deeds,
to Gardens of Paradise, beneath which flowing rivers flow.
And, without a doubt, God does as He intends.
Whoever believes that God will not help him in this world and in the Hereafter –
it won’t be until death touches him that he sees that none other than God
can remove that which enrages him.
And, We therefore descended down the Qur’an
as verses of Clear Proof of the Truth,
and God Guides whom He Wills.
And, without a doubt, those who were Believers,
as well as those of other religions, as well as those who associated
others with God, God will judge between all of them on Judgment Day.
And, God is a Witness over all matters.
Do you not know that to God bows down all that is in the Heavens, and the earth,
the sun and the moon, the stars, the mountains, and trees,
and all of His living creatures?
And, upon many civilizations, God’s wrath has been clearly justified.
And, the man whom God has dishonored – then for him, there is none who can
bestow honor on him other than Allah.
And, unquestionably, God does as He wills to.
The Believers and the DisBelievers are adversaries who dispute over God.
But, those who DisBelieved will wear garments of fire in Hellfire.
And, for them are hot iron staffs to brace them,
and immense fiery water punishment for their DisBelief will descend upon them,
dissolving that which lies within their bellies and skins.
And, every time the UnBelievers try to escape from Hellfire’s anguish,
they will be returned to it, saying, “Taste of the punishment of the Fiery Blaze!”
However, without a doubt, God will welcome those who Believe in Him,
and do righteous good deeds in life,
to Gardens of Paradise beneath which flowing rivers flow.
The Believers will be bejeweled therein with gold and pearl bracelets,
and they will be given silken garments to wear.
And, the Believers were the ones Guided in life to kind words,
and Guided to the Right praiseworthy Path in life.
Undoubtedly, the people who do not Believe in God, and
turn others away from God’s Path, and from the True Faith
and from the Masjid al-Haram that We created for the people,
or intending to do harm or evil therein –
God will make him taste of the agonizing punishment for doing so.
And, remember O Muhammad,
when We choose for Abrahim the location of God’s House, saying,
“Do not equate others with God and purify God’s House
for those who worship walking in a circular fashion,
and for those who stand upright in worship,
and for those who bow down before Him.
And, make known to the people of the pilgrimage;
they will arrive by foot and by worn thin camels,
they will arrive from every distant land –
that they will receive repentance for themselves and
remember God’s Holy Name on given days over what Allah has
given to them of His sustenance.
So eat of the Bounty He has given to you,
and feed the dejected and the needy.
And, let them end their impurity of Faith, and fulfill their obligations to others,
and perform worshipful prayers around the revered House of God.
That has been ordained, and whoever honors God’s sacred laws – it is best for him in the sight of his Sovereign Lord God. And, you are permitted to eat grazing livestock, except for what is forbidden to you. So avoid the impurity of worshipping false idols, and avoid making false lies, Believing only in God, and not associating any others with Him. And, he who Believes in God – it is as though one had fallen from the skies and was snatched up and carried off by a bird, or the wind carried him off to some distant land to safety. This is the Truth. And whoever reveres the symbols of Allah, without a doubt, it is from piety and a sincere heart. And, for you are blessings for a set time. And, the practice of sacrifice is a practice from earlier religions. And, for all religions on earth, We have ordained a rite that they mention God’s name over what He has provided to them of animals. For your God is one True God, so submit to Him. And, give blessings to the humble, who, when God’s name is mentioned, their hearts are filled with sincerity, and are patient in times of adversity, and establish regular prayers, and spend in charity to the needy from what God has provided to them. And, camels and livestock alike are symbols of God’s Bounty to mankind, and for you therein is much nourishment. So, remember to mention God’s Holy Name upon then when they are lined up, and when they are lying on their sides, then eat from them and feed the hungry. So, We subjected them to you so that you might be thankful to Him. Their meat will never reach God, nor their blood, but, what will reach Him is thankfulness from you. So, We subjected them to you that you might adore God (Allah), and to that which He Guided you; and give good blessings to those who do good. And, without a doubt, Allah protects those who Believe in Him. However, He does not like anyone who is treacherous and unthankful to Him. And, those who are being attacked, have permission to defend themselves because they are not to blame. And, in reality, Allah is able to give them triumph; those who been evicted from their homes without just cause - only because they say, “Our Lord God is Allah.”
And, if it weren't for the check system Allah has put in place,
some people as a means of governance over others,
monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques in which God's Holy Name
is mentioned might all have been destroyed.
And, God encourages those who support Him and His Holy Word.
Without a doubt, God is the Most Powerful and Most Exalted in Strength.
The Believers are those who, if We endowed to them governance of the land,
establish regular prayers to Him, and give in charity to the needy,
and uphold what is Right, and prohibit what is evil.
And, to God is the final outcome of all matters in life.
And, if they reject what you are saying, O Muhammad, so to before them
did Noah's people, and Aad and Thamud, who rejected God's prophets,
as did the people of Abrahim and Lot,
and the Madyan inhabitants.
And, Moses too was rejected as well, so God extended the enjoyment of
this life to the DisBelievers for a time, then they were ruined,
and how severe was God's admonishment for same.
And, how many a civilization was destroyed while it was committing evil -
so it is now fallen into ruin, leaving nothing but abandoned wells
and lofty empty fortresses.
So haven't the DisBelievers not travelled throughout the land,
or have hearts with which to reason and Believe,
or ears with which to hear God's Truth?
For, in reality, it is not the eyes that are Blinded to the Truth,
but their hearts that are blinded within their breasts.
And, some of the DisBelievers might wish for God to hasten their punishment.
But, God will never break His promise.
And, without a doubt, a day with your Sovereign Lord God is
like a thousand of those that you count.
And, for how many a civilization did God extend its existence
while it was committing evil out of great patience by Him.
Then, to some, they were destroyed for their DisBelief and lack of Faith,
and to God is the final destination.
Say, "O mankind, I am only to you a clear warner."
And, those who Believed in God, and did Righteous good deeds -
for them is Forgiveness and noble sustenance from Him.
But, the ones who endeavored against Our Verses,
seeking to cause failure to God - they are those who will be companions of Hellfire.
And, We did not send a prophet or Messenger of God before you
but that when he spoke, Satan cast into it misgivings.
But, God destroys what Satan cast in; and then God will make Perfect His Holy Verses.
And, God is the All Knowing, the Most Wise.
So He makes what Satan cast in as a trial for those whose hearts
are filled with hypocrisy, arrogance and DisBelief.
And, in reality, those who do evil are in extreme dissension.
However, those who were blessed with Knowledge know that it is the Truth
from your Sovereign Lord God and Believe in it,
and their hearts submit humbly to the Truth.
And, really, Allah is the Guide of those who Believe in the Right Path.
However, those who DisBelieve will not stop being in doubt about the Truth
until the Final Hour comes unexpectedly, or the punishment of
Judgment Day descends upon them.
And, all sovereignty and Power rests with God on that Day,
and He will judge between all people on that Day.
Those who Believed in God, and did righteous good deeds,
will reside in the Gardens of Delight to dwell therein eternally.
But, those who DisBelieved and rejected Our Signs,
for them will be a humiliating punishment in Hellfire.
And, those who travel for God's causes, and are killed or perish therein,
God will certainly provide for them a fine provision.
And, without a doubt, Allah is the Best of All Providers.
He will surely cause them to enter into Paradise with an entrance
that will delight them, and, without a doubt, God is
the All Knowing and Most Patient.
That is the Truth. And, whoever responds
with the equivalent of that which he was harmed and
is then tyrannized thereby - God will certainly help him.
And, in reality, God is full of Pardon and Forgiveness.
Allah causes the night to descend upon the day,
and the day upon the night, and He is the All Hearing and All Seeing.
This is because God is the Truth, and that which the polytheists and pagans
call upon besides Him is falsehood,
and Allah is the Most Exalted, the Most Grand.
Don't you see that God descended rain from the skies,
and the earth becomes green with life?
Without a doubt, Allah is the Most Sublime and Acquainted with all matters.
To Him belongs all that is in the Heavens and the earth.
And, without a doubt, God is without need, and is the Most Praiseworthy.
Don't you see that God subjected to you all that is on the earth,
and the ships that sail through the sea by His command?
And, He upholds the skies from falling upon the earth,
and they will not fall without His permission.
And, indeed, God is the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.
And, He is the One who gives you life; then causes you later to perish,
and then will again resurrect you in the End.
But, in reality, mankind is at times unthankful.
For every religion on earth, We have selected religious rites for them to perform.
So, do not let fight or argue with you over rites,
but invite them to the Truth from your Lord God.
Without a doubt, you are in Right Guidance from your Sovereign Lord God.
And, if they fight and argue with you, then say,
"God is Most Knowledgeable about what you do.
God will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection
concerning that on which you used to differ and disagree upon."
Do you not know that God Knows all that is in the Heavens and the earth?
Without a doubt, that is contained within the Clear Record.
And, indeed, for Allah that is simple.
And, some people worship others besides God, that for which He has
not set any authority to do so, and that of which they do not possess knowledge.
And, there will not be any to help the evildoers in the Hereafter.
And, when Our Verses are recited to them as Clear Proof,
you see in the faces of those who DisBelieve disapproval of same.
Some are even on the verge of harming those who recite Our Verses.
Say, "Shall I notify you then of what is worse than that?
It is Hellfire that God has promised those who DisBelieve in Him,
and how evil and wretched is this destination."
O people, an example has been presented to you, so listen to it.
In reality, those you people invoke besides God
cannot even create so much as a fly, even if they all gathered together
for that purpose. And, if that fly should take from them even a tiny thing,
they couldn't recover it from the fly.
Weak are the idols and those who lay their trust in them.
They have not considered God with just due consideration.
Without a doubt, God is the Most Powerful and Most Exalted in Strength.
God selects from the angels Messengers, and from mankind as well.
And, indeed, Allah is the All Hearing and All Seeing.
He knows all that is presently before them, and what will be after them.
And, to God are all matters returned for Final Judgment.
All you who have Believed, bow and lay down before Him,
and worship your Sovereign Lord God alone, and do righteous good deeds -
so that you may do well before Him.
And, try your very best for Allah with the sincerity of worship due Him.
He has selected you for Guidance, and has not placed any burden upon you by Faith.
The Faith of your father, Abrahim.
God called you "Muslims" before in the Holy Scriptures, and in this Revelation,
that the Messenger may be a witness thereby, and you all will
be witnesses over one another as well.
So establish regular prayers to Him, and give charity to the needy,
and hold steadfast in Faith to Allah.
God is your Protector; and how excellent is a Protector is He,
and how excellent a helper.
