surah 20 letters ta ha

                   (In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, Most Merciful)

 

Ta, ha.

We did not descend down the Qur’an to you to cause you suffering,

but rather, as a remembrance for those who fear God –

a Revelation from He who created all the earth and the exalted Heavens,

the Most Merciful One established on the Exalted Throne of Authority.

To Him belongs all that is in the Heavens, and on the earth,

and everything in between them, and under the earth.

And, if you talk outloud, He knows what lies undisclosed,

or what you are hiding.

Allah (God) – there is no god but Him.

 And, to Him belong the finest of names.

And, has Moses’ story reached you?

When he saw a burning blaze,

and told his family, “Remain here. I have seen a fire;

maybe I will go there and return to you a burning torch,

or find at the fire’s source some help.”

And, when he arrived at the fire, Moses was called to,

“Moses, I am your Sovereign Lord God, so take off your sandals.

For, in reality, you are in the holy Tuwa valley.

And, I have chosen you, so listen to what is Revealed to you.

Unquestionably, I am God.  There is no God but Me,

so worship Me only and establish regular prayer

for My Remembrance.

And, without a doubt, the Hour is approaching –

and I alone Know when it is coming –

so that every soul can be rewarded according to that what it did in life.

So, do not let anyone turn you away from the Right Path,

those who don’t Believe in God or the Hereafter,

and follows his own pleasures, for you will perish.

What is in your right hand there, Moses?

Moses replied, “This is my walking stick. I sometimes lean on it,

or knock down leaves for my sheep,

and it has other uses as well.”

God said, “Throw it down on the ground, Moses.”

So Moses threw the stick down on the ground,

and thereafter it became a serpent, moving quickly.

God said, “Take hold of it and don’t be afraid;

I will return it to its former state.

And, sketch with it in your hand by your side;

and it will become pure – and this is another of My Signs,

that I may demonstrate to you some of My Signs.

Set off and go to Pharaoh. For, without a doubt, he has sinned.

Moses said, “My Sovereign Lord, make me strong and brave,

and make my task easy,

and unknot my tongue,

that they may comprehend what I say,

and select an assistant for me from my family –

my brother Aaron.

And, bestow upon him my strength,

and impart part of this task to him

that We may exalt and give praise to You,

and remember You often,

For, without a doubt, You are All Seeing.”

And God said, “You have been conceded your request, Moses.

And, We conferred our blessing upon you on another occasion.

When We moved your mother to do,

saying, “Put him into the strong box, and place it into the river;

and the river will set it onto the riverbank; there will seize him

an enemy to Me, and an enemy to him.”

And, I bestowed affection upon you from Me, so that you

would be brought under My care.

And, We bestowed favor on you when your sister said,

“Shall I send you to someone who will be responsible for him?”

So, We returned you to your mother so she would be happy,

and not grieve for you.  And, you caused someone to perish,

and We spared you from retaliation, and tested you with a severe trial.

And, you stayed with Madyan people for some time.

Then, you arrived here at the appointed time Moses.

And, I created you for Myself.

So go, you and your brother, with the Signs I have bestowed upon you,

and do not lessen in your remembrance of Me.

Both of you go and approach Pharaoh. For, indeed, he has sinned.

And, speak to him with kind speech so that he might be reminded

 or fear God.”

They replied, “O Sovereign Lord, really we are afraid that he

will punish us, or that he will kill us.”

God said, “Do not be afraid, for really I am with you both;

and I hear and see all things.  So go to him saying,

“We are Messengers of God, so release to us the slaves

 and do not harm them.  We have come to you with a Sign from God.

And, peace will be upon he who follows this Guidance.

And, in reality, it has been Revealed to us that whoever rejects it,

and turns away, will be given a punishment.”

Pharaoh said, “So who is the God of you two, Moses?”

He replied, “Our God is He who created every living

 and gave it its form, and Guided it.”

Pharaoh replied, “So what is the example of the former peoples?”

Moses said, “The Knowledge resides with my Lord God

 in a Clear Record.  My God neither forgets nor makes mistakes.”

It is He who created the earth for you as a bed, and placed therein

pathways, and descended from the skies rain, thereby producing

various categories of plants. 

Eat thereof, and let your livestock go to pasture. 

And, really, in that are Signs for people of Knowledge.

From it We created you, and to it you will return. 

And, on the Day of Resurrection,

We will extract you therefrom.

And, We most assuredly demonstrated Our Signs to him –

all of them – but he rejected and refused to Believe.

Pharaoh said, “Have you come to force us out of our homeland

with your sorcery Moses?

Then we will certainly bring you sorcery like it, so make between

you and I a rendezvous, which we will not neglect to keep,

nor you, in a marked place.”

Moses replied, “Your meeting is on the festival day

when the people are gathered mid morning.”

So, Pharaoh left, and plotted his plan, and then came to Moses.

Moses said to those summoned by Pharaoh, “Misery to you.

 Do not invent lies against God

or He will cause you to perish with a punishment;

and he is Lost whoever invents such lies.”

So, the people argued amongst themselves,

and hid their personal inner dialogue.

They said, “We have two sorcerers who want to force you out

of their homeland with their sorcery, and

do away with your most honored traditions.

So come to a decision of your plan and then come into line.

And, he has triumphed today whoever overcomes the other.”

They said to Moses, “Moses, either you cast, or we will

be the first to cast.”

He replied, “Instead, you cast.” And, suddenly,

their ropes and walking sticks seemed to him from their sorcery

to be moving like snakes.

And Moses sensed within himself some apprehension, Moses did.

We said to him, “Do not be afraid.  In reality, it is you who is greater.

And, cast what is in your right hand; it will devour what they have

crafted.  What they have crafted is the sorcerer’s deception,

and the sorcerer will not triumph whoever he is.”

So, the sorcerers fell down in prostration. 

They said, “We believe in the God of Moses and Aaron.”

Pharaoh said, “You believe in him before I have given you

 permission to?  Really, he is your leader who has taught you sorcery.

So I certainly will sever off your hands and your feet on opposing sides,

and I will crucify you on palm tree trunks, and you will definitely know

which of us is more strict in punishment and the most strong.”

They replied, “Never will we favor you over what has appeared to us

as clear evidence from He who created us.

So, order whatever you wish to order.

You can only order in this earthly domain.

Without a doubt, we Believe in our Sovereign Lord God

so that He will forgive us our sins, and what you forced us to

do of sorcery.  And, God is superior and everlasting.”

And, in reality, whoever comes to his Lord God as an UnBeliever –

without a doubt, for him is Hellfire;

 he will neither perish therein nor live.

But, whoever comes to his Sovereign Lord God as a Believer,

having done Righteous good deeds in life,

they will be in the most glorious ranking;

Gardens of Perpetual Abode beneath which flowing rivers flow,

wherein they will abide therein eternally.

And, that is the reward for the one who purifies himself of sin.

And, We inspired Moses, saying, “Travel by night with My

followers and strike for them a dry passageway through the sea;

you will not be afraid of being overtaken by Pharaoh,

nor have any fear of drowning.”

So, Pharaoh followed them with his soldiers,

and the sea overcame them and covered them.

And, Pharaoh led his people astray by not Guiding them to the Truth.

O Hebrews, We delivered you from your enemy,

and We made a Special Sign for you at the right side of the mountain,

and We descended to you quail and manna, saying,

“Eat of the good things We have provided to you, and do not sin

therein, lest My fury descend upon you.

And, He upon whom I descend My fury has certainly Lost.”

However, in reality, I am the Eternal Forgiving One

of whoever repents to Me and Believes,

and does Righteous good deeds, and continues on in Guidance.

“And, what made you hurry from your people Moses?”

He replied, “They were close behind me, and I hurried to you,

my Lord God, so that you would be pleased with me.”

God said, “But, in reality, We have tested your people after you left,

and the Samiri led them astray.”

So Moses returned to his people furious and feeling aggrieved.

He said, “O my people, didn’t your Lord God fulfill His Covenant

as promised? So, what was the time of fulfillment to lengthy for you?

Or, did you hope that God’s wrath would descend upon you?

So, you broke your promises with me.”

They replied, “We did not break our promise by our own will,

we were made to carry loads of Pharaoh’s ornaments,

so we cast them in the fire, as did the Samiri.”

And, he removed for them the statue of the golden calf,

that made a little sound, and they said, “This is our god,

and Moses’ god, but he didn’t remember.”

Couldn’t they see that the golden calf couldn’t respond to them,

and didn’t have any power to either harm or help them?

And, Aaron had already told the people before Moses returned,

“O my people, you are only being tried by it, and in reality,

your Sovereign Lord God is the Most Merciful One,

so follow me and abide by my order.”

They said, “We will never stop being faithful to the golden calf

until Moses returns to us.”

Moses said, “Aaron, what stopped you, when you saw that

they were going astray from following me?

Then, have you followed my command?”

Aaron replied, “O my mother’s son, do not grab me by my beard

or my head.  Really, I feared that you would say, “You caused

division among the Hebrews, and you did not await hearing from me.”

And Moses said, “And what is your argument, Samiri?”

He replied, “I saw what they didn’t, so I took a handful of

sand from the Messenger’s footsteps and threw it,

and likewise did my soul allure me.”

Moses said, “Go then.  And, unquestionably, it is decreed for you

in life to say, “Do not touch me.  And indeed, you have

a meeting you will not fail to keep.  And, look at the deity

that you remain devoted to.  We will certainly burn it

and propel it into the sea with a great blast.

Your only god is Allah, except for whom there is no other God.

He has encompassed all things (great and small)

 in his Divine Knowledge.”

So, Muhammad, We reveal unto you of the story of what came before.

And, We have given to you most assuredly a Message from Us.

Whoever turns away from the Message, then really he will bear

a burden of sin on the Day of Resurrection, abiding eternally therein,

and wicked is the burden they will bear on the Day of Resurrection –

The Day the Horn will be blown, and We will collect the wrongdoers

together.  And, on that Day their eyes will be filled with fear.

They will talk among themselves saying, “It seems

we stayed here but ten days in the world.”

We are most knowledgeable about what they say, and the smartest

among them will say, “We stayed but one day.”

And, they will question you about the mountains, so say to them,

“My Lord God will crumble them with a great blast.

And, He will leave it a flat plain.

You would not see anywhere a depression or elevation.”

And, on that Day, everyone will listen to the call of the Caller

to the Day of Judgment,

with no movement away therefrom, and all voices will

be quiet before the Most Merciful One, so you

will hear nothing but a whisper.

And, on that Day, no intercession will benefit anyone,

except for the assistance given by the Most Merciful One.

And, God knows what is before them, and what will come after them,

but they do not know what He alone Knows.

And, all peoples’ faces will be humbled before the Eternally Living One,

the Cherisher and Sustainer of all existence.

And one will be of the Lost who fails to Believe in Him.

But, he who does righteous good deeds while a Believer –

he will neither be afraid of injustice in the End, nor fear deprivation.

And so We descended down the Qur’an and have explained

therein the warnings so maybe some will avoid sin,

and remember Allah.

So exalted above all is Allah, the Most Sovereign Lord, the Truth.

And, do not hurry with the recitation of the Qur’an before it

is Revealed completely to you.  And, say, “Increase for me

my Knowledge, My Sovereign Lord.”

And, We had taken an agreement with Adam previously,

but he forgot it; and We found him not able to resist temptation.

And, remember when We said to the angels, “Bow down before Adam”

and they prostrated, except Satan who refused to do so.

So, We said, “Without a doubt, Satan is the avowed enemy

of you and your wife.” So, don’t let him cut you off from Paradise

so you would despair.

And, without a doubt, you will not be hungry therein,

nor be unclothed.

And, undeniably, you will not be thirsty,

nor be sweltering from the sun.”

But then Satan whispered to him, he said, “Adam, shall I show

you the tree of perpetuity and possessions that will not age?”

And, Adam and his wife ate from the tree, and their private parts

 became apparent to them, and they began to place leaves from

the tree in Paradise over their private parts.

And, Adam refused to comply with the laws of his Sovereign Lord,

 and went astray.

But then his Lord forgave him, and chose him, and Guided him

to the Right Path.

God said, “Descend from Paradise – all of you,

being at odds with one another.

And, if Guidance should come from Me then whoever follows

it will neither go astray nor suffer.

But, whoever turns away from My remembrance – without a doubt

he will have a miserable life, and We will raise him up on

the Day of Resurrection Unseeing to the Truth.”

He may say, “Lord, why have you raised me up Unseeing to

the Truth, when I was once filled with your Light?”

God will say, “In this way did Our Signs descend to you,

and you put them out of your mind and disregarded them;

and consequently, on this Day you will be forgotten.”

And, thus do we punish those who have sinned, and who

did not Believe in the Signs of the Sovereign Lord God.

And, the Hereafter’s punishment will be even more severe,

and more permanent.

So, hasn’t it become clear to them how many civilizations before

them were destroyed by God for DisBelief, as they

walk among their homes?

And, without a doubt, in that are Signs for people with Knowledge.

And, if not for a Holy Word that came before from your Lord,

it would have been compulsory, and if not for the specified

decreed time.

So be tolerant about what they say, and exalt and give

praise to Allah, your Sovereign Lord, before sunrise and sunset;

and exalt and give praise to Him during the night, and

at the beginning and conclusion of the day; that you

might be pleased.

And, do not covet that which We have provided to some of the people,

it is nothing but the grandeur of this wordly life

through which We try them. 

And the sustenance of your Sovereign Lord is even better,

and everlasting.

And, direct prayers with your family, and community,

and be strong in Faith.  We do not ask you for sustenance;

We provide it to you, and the best outcome is for those who are pious.

And, the DisBelievers say, “Why doesn’t he descend down

a Sign from his God?”  Hasn’t there been sufficient proof

provided to them in the earlier Scriptures?

And, if We had ruined them with a punishment beforehand,

the DisBelievers would have said, “So why didn’t you bring

us a Messenger so we could have followed Your teachings

before we were disgraced and put down?”

Say to them, “All of us are unwearied and uncomplaining,

 so wait and be patient. For you will come to Know who are
