A Translation that includes The Last Sermon
Surah 26 the writers
(In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, Most Merciful)
Ta, Seen, Meem.
These are the Clear Verses of the Qur’an.
Maybe, O Muhammad, you might consider suicide with sadness
because some of the people will not be Believers.
And, if God Willed to, He could descend down to them from the sky
a Sign from Him demanding that they humbly bow down before Him.
And, no new revelation comes to them from on High
from the Most Merciful One,
but that they turn away from it.
For they have already rejected Faith in their hearts,
but there will come to them that which they used to make fun of.
Don’t they look at the earth –
how much did We create therein of every noble variety?
And, without a doubt, in that is a Sign,
but many of them will not be Believers.
And, indeed, your Sovereign Lord God –
He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful.
And, remember when your Lord God called out to Moses, saying,
“Go to the people who are doing wrong –
Pharaoh’s people. Will they not fear God?”
He replied, “My Lord, I am afraid that they will reject me,
and that my chest will tighten with fear, and my words will not be fluent,
so please send for Aaron. And, they have a claim upon me due to sin,
and I fear that they will kill me.”
And, God replied, “No. Both of you go to Pharaoh with Our Signs.
And, We are always with you, listening.”
Go to Pharaoh and his people and say, “We are the Messengers
of the Sovereign Lord of all the worlds.”
And Moses commanded Pharaoh, “Let my people go.”
And Pharaoh replied, “Didn’t we rear you as a child among us?
And, you remained among us for many years.
Then, you killed someone by striking him,
and you were of the ungracious.”
Moses said, “I did kill him while I was of those who had gone astray
from the Right Path. So, I ran away when I feared you.
Then, my Lord God gave me of His Judgment, and then appointed me to
repent by heralding Him and serving Him.
And, is this a blessing of that you remind me, by enslaving the Jews?”
And, Pharaoh replied, “And what is the Lord God of all the worlds?”
Moses replied, “The Sovereign Lord of all the Heavens and the earth,
and everything in between them,
if you should be influenced by what I say.”
And, Pharaoh said to the people around him, “Don’t you hear?”
Moses said, “Your Lord God, and the God of your first ancestors.”
Pharaoh said, “Your ‘messenger’ who has been sent to you
people is crazy.”
Moses replied, “Lord God of the East and the West,
and everything that lies between them, if you were to Understand.”
Pharaoh replied, “If you take as your god something other than me,
I will place you all in prison.”
Moses replied, “Even if I provide you with Manifest Proof?”
Pharaoh said, “Then bring it to me, if you should be telling the truth.”
So Moses threw down his walking staff, and it turned into a live snake.
And, he extended his hand, and it became white for those looking on.
Pharaoh said to the people around him, “Unquestionably,
he is a talented magician.
He wants to send you out of your land with his magic,
so what do you suggest?”
They replied, “Hold off on the matter for a time and send
people to the cities, who will bring to you
all talented magicians before you.”
So, all of the magicians were gathered together
on an appointed day. And, it was said to the people gathered,
“Will you all come together so that we may follow the magicians
if they are the prevalent ones.” He said, “Yes, and undeniably,
you will then be of those close to me.”
Moses said, “Cast down whatever you may cast.”
So, they cast down their staffs and ropes saying, “By the power of
Pharaoh, indeed, we are the greatest ones of all.”
Then, Moses threw down his walking staff,
and it destroyed what they had falsified.
So, the magicians fell down in prostration to Allah.
They said, “We Believe in the Lord God of all the worlds,
the Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
And, Pharaoh replied, “You believe him before I give you permission to.
Without a doubt, he is your leader who has taught you this magic, but,
you are going to regret this. I will cut off your hands and feet on
both sides, and I will crucify all of you for this.”
They said, “We are not afraid. For, without a doubt, we will return to
our Lord God. Undeniably, He will forgive us our sins because we
are among the first to Believe in Him.”
And, We told Moses, “Go, travel by night with my followers.
And, without a doubt, you will be pursued by Pharaoh’s army.”
Then, Pharaoh sent some of his people into the cities to stop him, saying,
“These are but a small group of people, and really, they are upsetting us.
We are a reserved society…”
So, God destroyed their gardens and rivers,
their treasures, and honorable station in life. Thus, he caused
the Hebrews to inherit the Promised Land thereby.
And, Pharaoh’s army pursued them at sunrise.
And, when the two armies saw one another, Moses’ friends said,
“Surely, we will be overtaken by them.”
Moses replied, “No. For with me is my Lord God,
and He will Guide me to safety.”
And, We told Moses, “Strike the sea with your walking staff.”
And, the great sea parted, and the two portions
towered above like great mountains.
And, We caused Pharaoh’s army to enter thereto.
And, God saved Moses, and all of those with him, altogether.
And, Pharaoh’s army was drowned.
And, without a doubt, in that are Signs, but most of the
people were not to be Believers.
And, unquestionably, your Lord God –
He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful.
And, recite to them the story of Abrahim,
when he asked his father and his people, “Who do you worship?”
And, they replied, “We worship these idols and are devoted to them.”
He replied, “Do these idols hear you when you pray to them?
Or, do they benefit you in any way, or do they harm you?”
They replied, “But, we found our ancestors praying to them.”
He said, “Don’t you see what you are worshipping,
you and your ancient ancestors?”
Without a doubt, they are my enemies.
I Believe in the Lord God of all the worlds who created me,
and He it is who Guides me.
And, it is He who gives me food to eat and provides me with drink.
And, when I am sick, it is God who heals me.
And, when I perish, it is He who will resurrect me.
And, it is He that I ask for forgiveness from on the Day of Judgment.
My Lord God, grant me strength and join me among the righteous.
And, grant to me a position of honor among the generations to come.
And, put me among the Inheritors of the Gardens of Perpetual Bliss.
And Lord, forgive my father for he has been of those who went astray.
And, please do not disgrace me on the Day of Resurrection –
the Day when wealth nor children will be of any benefit,
and one must approach God with a sincere heart.”
And, Paradise will be drawn near on that Day to the Righteous.
And, Hellfire will be brought close for those who have gone astray,
and it will be said to them, “Where are those idols you used to worship,
other than God? Can they help you, or help even their selves?”
So, they will be cast into Hellfire, they and those who went astray,
and Satan’s army, altogether.
They will say while they argue therein, “By Allah, we truly
were in manifest error when we equated those idols with the Lord God
of all the worlds. And, no one misguided us except ourselves.
So now we have no one to help us, nor a devoted friend to rely on.
If only we could return to the earth, we would surely repent
and be of the Believers!”
And, unquestionably, in that is a Sign, however, most of
them were not to be of the Believing people.
And, without a doubt, Your Sovereign Lord God –
He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful. Noah’s people also rejected God’s Messenger, when their brethren Noah said to them, “Will you not fear God? Unquestionably, I am a trustworthy Messenger of God. Consequently, fear God and follow me. And, I do not ask for any payment from you. My reward is with the Sovereign Lord of all the worlds. So fear God and follow me.” They replied, “Why should we believe you when you are followed by the lowliest of people.” He said, “What do I know of what they used to do? Their judgment rests with God, if you only Knew. And, I am not one to force away those who Believe. I am but a clear warner to you.” They replied, “If you do not stop Noah, we will surely stone you.” He said to them, “My Lord God, without a doubt my people have rejected me. Please judge between me and them with clear authority, and rescue me, and those Believers with me.” So, We rescued him and the Believers with him in the overloaded ark. And, thereafter those left behind drowned in the Great Flood. And, without a doubt, in that is a Sign from God. However, many of them were not to be Believers. And, indeed your Sovereign Lord God – He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful. ‘Aad also denied God’s Messengers, when their brethren Hud said to them, “Won’t you fear God? Undeniably, I am a trustworthy Messenger of God to you. So fear God and follow me. And, I do not ask any payment from you. My reward is only with the Sovereign Lord God of all the worlds. Do you build on every mountain flamboyant signs of your wealth, to amuse yourselves, and build fortresses for yourself that you think that you can dwell in forever? And, when you strike in war, you strike as tyrants and oppressors. So, fear God and follow me. And, fear Him who gave you the knowledge which you were blessed with, and provided you with grazing cattle, and progeny, and gardens and rivers. Really, I fear for you the punishment of one horrible day.” They replied, “It is all the same to use if you tell us, or not. This is nothing but the legends of the prior civilizations. And, we are not going to be punished by God.” And, they rejected him, and they were destroyed by God’s wrath. And, indeed, in that is a Sign, but many of them still were not to be Believers. And, indeed, your Sovereign Lord God – He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful. Thamud also rejected God’s Messengers, when their brethren Salih said to them, “Won’t you fear God? Without a doubt, I am a trustworthy Messenger of God. So, fear God and follow me. And, I do not ask for any payment from you. My reward is with the Sovereign Lord God of all the worlds. Will you be safe here in what is left, with gardens and rivers, and crops and palm trees bearing soft fruit? I see you carve out of the mountains homes with great skill. So, fear God and follow me. And, do not obey those who are sinners, those who cause corruption throughout the land, and do not change.” They replied, “You are but one of those people affected by magic. You are nothing but a man like ourselves. So, bring us a Sign from God, if you are being truthful.” He replied, “God has given us a she-camel to protect. For her is water to drink, and for you is water to drink, each on a given day. And, do not harm her or you will be stricken with the punishment of a horrible day.” But, they crippled her by cutting her leg tendons, and then they regretted it. And, God’s punishment destroyed them. And, in that are Signs, but many of them still were not to be Believers. And, indeed, your Sovereign Lord God – He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful. Lot’s people also rejected God’s Messengers, when their brethren Lot said to them, “Won’t you fear God?” Undeniably, I am a trustworthy Messenger of God to you. So fear God and follow me. And, I do not ask any payment from you. My reward is only with the Sovereign Lord God of all the worlds. Do you select your own sex for mates in this world and reject what God created for you as a counterpart? Really, you are a sinful people.” He said, “I detest what unlawful sex acts you are doing. My Lord God rescue me and my family from what they do.” So, We rescued him and his family, all but his wife who remained behind who collaborated with those who did wrong. Then, God’s wrath destroyed the others. And, We descended a shower of stones from the sky, and how wretched was the shower on those who were warned. And, without a doubt, in that is a Sign from God, but many people were still not to become Believers. And, indeed your Sovereign Lord God – He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful. The Madyan people also rejected God’s Messengers. Shu’ayb said to them, “Won’t you fear God?” Without a doubt, I am a trustworthy Messenger of God. So, fear God and follow me. And, I do not ask any payment from you. My reward is with the Sovereign Lord of all the worlds. Give full measure in business dealings, and do not be of those who cause loss to others. And, weigh with even fairness, and do not withhold from people their just due, nor commit abuse against another on earth, or spread corruption and evil. And, fear Him who created you, and prior creations. They replied, “You are affected by some kind of magic. You are nothing but a man like ourselves, and in reality, we think that you are lying. So make fragments fall from the sky if you will, if you should be telling the truth.” He told them, “My Lord God is All Knowing of what you do.” And, they turned away from him. So, the punishment of the day descended upon them, and the dark cloud destroyed them. Without a doubt, it was the punishment of a horrible day. And, undeniably, in that is a Sign, but many people still were not Believers. And, indeed your Sovereign Lord God - He is the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful. And, without a doubt, the Qur’an is revelation from the Lord God of all the worlds. The Faithful Spirit Gabriel descended it down upon your heart, O Muhammad, that you might be among those who warn mankind in clear language that they may Understand the Truth. And, clearly it is the Word of God, in conformance with the Scriptures of the former peoples. And, hasn’t it been recognized by the Jews, and a Sign for them as well? And, even if We had descended it through an Angel of God, and he recited Our Verses to mankind perfectly, they still would not be Believers in the Truth. So, We placed DisBelief in the hearts of the evildoers. They simply will not Believe in the Truth until they actually see the painful punishment in the end. And, it will descend upon them suddenly while they don’t know it. And, they will say, “May we be pardoned?” So, are they impatient for God’s punishment and wrath? Have you thought about if God gave them unadulterated enjoyment and pleasure, and then suddenly there descended upon them that which they were impatient for? Their pleasures and enjoyment they were given would not avail them against God’s punishment. And, God did not destroy any civilization without providing warners as a reminder to them, and never has God been unjust. And, the jinn did not descend down the punishment for it is not allowed for them to do so, nor would they be able to do so. Indeed, they are removed from eavesdropping to what the angels say. So, do not call upon God with any other deity, and be amongst those punished for shirk. And, warn your closest family members as well, O Muhammad. And, descend your wing, O Muhammad, to those who follow this Qur’an of the Believers. And, if they do not listen to you, then say to them, “I am no longer associated with you.” And, be strong and rely upon your Faith in the Most Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful One. He sees you from the time you arise, as well as when you go about your day among the Believers. And, without a doubt, God is the All Hearing, and All Knowing. Shall I tell you upon whom the jinns converge? They converge down upon all sinful liars. They eavesdrop and pass on what they hear, and most of them are hypocrites. And the writers, those who go astray follow them. Don’t you see that in every valley they roam freely disparaging others, and they say about others what they themselves do? All but the writers who Believe in God, and do righteous good deeds, and remember God often, and defend the Faith after they realized they were wrong. And, those who have done wrong know what punishment they will be given in return for what they have done in life.
