Surah 11 Hud

Surah 11 Hud

(In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, Most Merciful)

Alif, Lam, Ra.

This is a Book with perfected verses further explained in detail
from the One who is the Most Wise and Well-Acquainted with all things:

It teaches that you should worship none but God.
Say, "Indeed I am sent unto you from Him to warn and to bring glad tidings:

And, to preach thusly, 'Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance; that He may grant you enjoyment, good and true, for an appointed term,
and bestow His Abounding Grace on all who abound in merit!
But, if you turn away, then I fear for you the punishment of the Last Day.

'To God is your return, and He has Power over all things."

Behold! They fold up their hearts, that they may lie hidden from Him! Ah, even when they cover themselves with their garments, He knows what they conceal, and what they reveal.  For He knows well the innermost secrets of everyone's hearts.

There is no moving creature on earth, but that its existence depends on God.
He knows the dwelling place of each creature, and its resting place before and after death.  All is in a Clear Record.

It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days.  And, His Throne of Authority reigns over all the waters.  And, He might try you, whomever He chooses. But, if you were to say to the UnBelievers, "You shall indeed be raised up after death," the Unbelievers would be sure to say, "This is nothing but obvious magic!"

If God delays the punishment for them for a definite term, they will surely say, "What keeps it back?" Ah! On the day it actually reaches them, nothing will turn it away from them, and they will be completely encompassed by that which they used to mock at!

If God gives man a taste of Mercy from Himself, and then withdraws it from him, behold! He is in despair and falls into disrespect for God.

But, if God gives him a taste of His favors after adversity has touched him, he is sure to say, "All evil has departed from me." Behold! He falls into exultation and pride.

For those who show patience and constancy, and work righteously, for them is forgiveness of sins and a great reward.

Maybe you may feel the inclination to give up a part of what is Revealed unto you, and your heart feels downhearted when they say, "Why is not a treasure sent down unto him, or why doesn't an angel come down with him?"
But, you are there only to warn! It is God that arranges all affairs!

Or, they may say, "He forged it," Say to them, "Bring then ten forged surahs like it,

and call to your aid whomsoever you can, other than God if you speak the Truth!

"If then your false gods do not answer your call, know that this Revelation is sent down with the Knowledge of God, and that there is no God but He!
Will you even then submit to Islam?"

Those who desire the life of the present with its glitter, to them they shall pay the price of their deeds therein, without lessening.

They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but the Fire.  Vain are the designs they frame therein, and of no effect are the deeds that they do!

Can they be like those who accept a Clear Sign from their Lord, and whom a witness from Himself does teach, as did the Book of Moses before it, a Guide and a Mercy?
They Believe therein; but those of the sects that reject it, the Fire will be their promised meeting place. Be not be in doubt thereon: for it is the Truth from your Lord God.
Yet, many people still will not Believe!

Who does more wrong than those who invent a lie against God? They will be turned back to the presence of their Lord God, and the witnesses will say, "These are the ones who lied against their Lord! Behold! The Curse of God is on those who do wrong!

"Those who would hinder people from the path of God, and would seek in it something crooked; these are they who are denied the Hereafter!"

They will in no way frustrate His design on earth, nor do they have any protectors besides God. Their punishment will be doubled!
They lost the power to listen, and they did not Understand!

They are the ones who have lost their own souls,
and the fantasies they invented have left them with nothing!

Without a doubt, these are the very ones who will lose most in the Hereafter!

But, those who Believe and work righteously, and humble themselves before their Lord God, they will be Companions of the Gardens, to dwell therein forever!

There are two kinds of people who may be compared:  those who cannot See the Light and are UnHearing to the Truth, and those who can See the Light and Hear God's Word well.

Are they equal when compared?

Will you not then take heed?

We sent Noah to his people with a mission: "I have come to you with a Clear Warning.

"That you serve none but Allah.
Indeed, I do fear for you the punishment of a grievous day."

But, the chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said,
"We see in you nothing but a man like ourselves.
Nor do we see that any follow you but the lowest among us at first glance.

Nor, do we see in you any merit above us.

I
n fact, we think you are liars!"

He said, "O my people! I have a Clear Sign from my Lord, and that He has sent Mercy unto me from His own presence, but that the Mercy has been obscured from your sight? Shall we compel you to accept it when you are averse to it?

O my people! I ask you for no wealth in return.  My reward is from none but God. But, I will not drive away in contempt those who Believe.
For, indeed, they are to meet their Lord God, and you and I are the ignorant ones!

"And, O my people! Who would help me against God if I drove them away? Will you not then take heed of what I am saying?

"I tell you not that with me are the treasures of Allah, nor do I know what is hidden, nor do I claim to be an angel. Nor, yet do I say, of those whom your eyes do despise, that God will not grant them all that is good.  God knows best what is in their souls.
If I did claim so, indeed, I would be a wrongdoer."

They said, "O Noah! You have disputed with us, and you have prolonged the dispute with us.  Now bring upon us what you threaten us with, if you speak the truth!"

He said, "Truly, God will bring it on you if He Wills it,
and then you will not be able to stop it!

"Of no benefit will my counsel be to you, much as I desire to give you good counsel, if it is that God Wills to leave you astray.  He is your Sovereign Lord God!
And, to Him will you return!"

Or do they say, "He has forged it"? Say to them,"If I had forged it, on me is my sin!
And, I am free of the sins of which you are guilty!"

It was revealed to Noah: "None of your people will Believe except those who have Believed already! So grieve no longer over their evil deeds.

"But, construct an Ark under the angels' eyes and with God's inspiration, and address Him no further on behalf of those who are in sin.
For, they are about to be overwhelmed in the Flood."

Forthwith, he started constructing the ark.  Every time that the chiefs of his people passed by him, they ridiculed him. He said,  "If you laugh at us us now, we in our turn can look down on you with ridicule likewise!

"But, you will soon know on whom will descend a punishment that will cover them with shame, and on whom will be unleashed a lasting punishment."

At length, behold! There came God's Command, and the fountains of the earth gushed forth! They said, "Embark therein, two of each kind of animal, male and female, and your family - except those against whom The Word has already gone forth, and the Believers."
But, only a few Believed with him.

So, he said, "Embark on the ark in the Name of God, whether it moves or not!
For my Lord is, to be sure, the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful God!"

And the ark was jostled about with the waves towering over them like mountains.
Noah called out to his son who had been separated from everyone,
"O My son!  Embark with us, and do not be left with the UnBelievers!"

His son replied, "I will take myself to some mountain.  It will save me from the water." Noah said, "This day nothing can save you, except from the command of God,
none but those on whom He has Mercy!"
And the waves came between them, and the son was among those overtaken in the flood.

Then the Word went forth: "O Earth, swallow up your water. And, O sky! Withhold your rain!" And the water abated, and the matter was ended.  And, the ark came to rest on Mount Judi, and the Word went forth: "Away with those who do evil!"

And, Noah called upon his Lord saying, "O my Lord, my son is part of my family!

And, Your promise is true, and You are Just I Know!"

He said, "O Noah! He is not of your family anymore for his conduct was not righteous.
So do not ask of Me that which you have no Knowledge!
I give you counsel, less you act like those who do not Believe!"

Noah said, "O my Lord! I do seek refuge with Thee, less I ask You that of which I have no knowledge. And, unless you forgive me and have Mercy on me,
 I should indeed be lost!"

The Word came, "O Noah! Come down from the Ark with peace from God, and blessing upon you, and on some of the peoples who will spring from those people with you. But, there will be other peoples to whom God will grant their pleasures for a time, but in the end, they will have a grievous punishment from Him."

Such are some of the stories of the unseen, which God has Revealed unto you. Before this, neither you nor your people knew them.
So persevere patiently, for the best outcome will be for those who are Righteous.

To the 'Aad People, God sent Hud, one of their own people. He said, "O my people! Worship Allah. You have no other God but Him.
Your other gods do nothing but invent lies!

"O my people! I ask of you no reward for this Message. My reward is from He who created me. Will you not understand?"

"And, O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance. He will send you the skies pouring forth with plentiful rain, and add strength to your strength.
So, don’t turn back in sin!"

They said, "O Hud! You have brought no Clear Signs, and we are not the ones to desert our gods on your word! Nor, shall we Believe in you!

"We do not say anything but that some of our gods have overcome you with ignorance."

He said, "I call God to witness, and do you bear witness also that I am free from the sin of ascribing divinity to any other than God?  So go ahead and scheme your plans against me, and give me relief for my pain.

I put my trust in God, my Lord and yours!  There is not a moving creature, but that
He has grasp of its control
.

Indeed, it is my Lord that is on a Straight Path.

If you turn away, I have conveyed the Message that was sent to you. My Lord God will make another civilization to succeed you, and you will not harm Him in the very least.
For, my Lord has care and watch over all things."

So when God's Decree was issued, Hud was save, and those who Believed with him, by special Grace from Allah.  He saved them from a severe punishment.

Such were the 'Aad People: they rejected the Signs of their Lord and Cherisher; disobeyed His messengers; and followed the command of every powerful, obstinate sinner.

And, they were chased by a curse in this life, and on the Day of Judgment. Ah! Behold! For the 'Aad rejected their Lord and Cherisher! Ah! Behold! Removed from sight were 'Aad, the people of Hud!

To the Thamud People, God sent Salih, one of their own people. He said, "O my people! Worship Allah. You have no other God but Him. It is He who has produced you from the earth and settled you therein. Then, ask forgiveness of Him, and turn to Him in repentance. For my Lord is always near, ready to answer your calls."

They said, "O Salih! You were once a man with us! Do you now forbid us to worship that which our forefathers worshiped?
But, we are very suspicious of that to which you invite us."

He said, "O my people! Don't you understand? If I have a Clear Sign from my Lord and He has sent Mercy unto me from Himself, who then can help me against God if I were to disobey Him? What then would you add to my lot but loss?

"And, O my people! This she-camel of Allah is a symbol to you.  Leave her to feed on God’s free earth, and inflict no harm on her, or a swift punishment will overcome you!"

But, they hamstrung her. So he said, "Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days. Then will be your ruin.  Behold, there is a promise not to be misrepresented!"

And, when God's Decree was issued, the angels saved Salih and those who Believed with him, by special Grace from Allah - safe from the disgrace of that day. For your Lord, He is the Strong One, and able to enforce His Will over all.

The mighty blast overtook the evildoers,
and they lay prostrate in their homes before the morning came,
as if they had never dwelt and flourished there before. Ah! Behold! For the Thamud rejected their Lord and Cherisher! Ah! Behold! Removed from sight were the Thamud people!

Then came God's Messengers to Abraham with glad tidings. They said, "Peace!" He answered, "Peace!" And, he did not delay in entertaining them with a roasted calf.

But, when he saw their hands were not going for the food, he felt some mistrust of them, and began to fear them. They said, "Fear not. We have been sent to the people of Lot."

And, his wife was standing there, and she laughed.
But, they gave her glad tidings of Isaac, and after him, of Jacob.

She said, "Alas for me! Shall I bear a child, seeing I am an old woman, and my husband here is an old man? That would indeed be a wonderful thing!"

They said, "Do you wonder about God's Decree? The grace of God and His blessings on you, O you people of the house! For He is indeed worthy of all Praise, full of all Glory!"

When fear had passed from the mind of Abraham, and the glad tidings had reached him, he began to plead for Lot's people.

For Abraham was, without doubt, forbearing of faults, compassionate,
and given to look to Allah for help.

O Abraham! Do not seek this. The decree of Your Lord God has gone forth.
For them there will be a punishment that cannot be withdrawn!

And, when God's Messengers came to Lot, he was grieving on their account and felt himself powerless to protect them. He said, "This is a distressful day."

And, his people came rushing towards him, and they had been long in the habit of practicing abominations. He said, "O my people! Here are my daughters, they are purer for you if you marry! Now fear God, and do not cover me with shame while I am with my guests! Is there not among you a single Right-minded man?"

They said, "Well do you know that we have no need of your daughters.
Indeed, you know quite well what we want!"

He said, "I wish I had power to suppress you,
or that I could take refuge to some powerful support."

The Messengers said, "O Lot! We are Messengers from Your Lord! By no means shall they reach you! Now, travel with your family while yet a part of the night remains, and do not let any of you look back.  But, your wife will remain behind. She will be struck by that which strikes the rest of the UnBelieving people.
Indeed, morning is their appointed time. Isn't the morning near?"

And, when God's Decree was issued, the cities were turned upside down, and it rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay, spread layer upon layer, marked as from your Lord. Nor are they ever far from those who do wrong!

To the Madyan People, God sent Shu'aib, one of their own people.  He said, "O my people! Worship Allah. You have no other God but Him. And, do not give short measure or weight in business matters.  I see you in prosperity,
but I fear for you the punishment of a day that will all encompass you.

"And, O my people! Give just measure and weight, nor withhold from the people the things that are their just due.  Commit no evil on the earth with intent to do corruption.

That which is left you by God is best for you, if you only Believed!
But, I am not set over you to keep watch over you!"

They said, "O Shu'ayb! Does your religion command you that we stop the worship of the religion that our forefathers practiced, or that we stop doing what we like with our property? Truly, you are the one that is Knowledgeable and Right minded!"

He said, "O my people! See that I have a Clear Sign from my Lord, and He has given me sustenance pure and good as from Himself! I wish not, in opposition to you, to do that which I forbid you to do. I only desire your betterment to the best of my power; and my success in my task can only come from God. In Him, do I place all my trust,
and unto Him, do I seek assistance alone.

"And, O my people! Do not let my dissent cause you to sin, less you suffer a fate similar to that of the people of Noah, or of Hud, or of Salih.
Nor are the people of Lot far off from you!"

"But, ask forgiveness of your Lord, and turn unto Him in repentance. For my Lord God is indeed full of Mercy and loving kindness."

They said, "O Shu'ayb! Much of what you say we do not understand! In fact, among us we see that you have no strength! Were it not for your family, we certainly would have harmed you! For you are a man with no great position!"

He said to them, "O my people.  Is then, my family of more importance to you than God?  For you cast Him away, behind your backs with contempt.
But, in reality, my Lord God Sees all that you do!"

"And, O my people! Do whatever you can. I will do my part. Soon you will know who it is on whom descends the punishment of disgrace, and who is indeed the liar!
And, watch yourself! For I too am watching with you!"

And, when God's Decree was issued, Shu'ayb was saved, and those who Believed with him, by special Mercy from Allah. But, the mighty blast did seize the evildoers, and they lay prostrate in their homes in the morning, as if they had never dwelt and flourished there before!  Ah!  Behold!  How the Madyans were removed from sight as the Thamud people were also removed!

And, God sent Moses, with Clear Signs and an authority manifest, and unto Pharaoh and his chiefs.  But, they followed the command of Pharaoh, and the command of Pharaoh was not on Right Guidance from your Lord God.

He will go before his people on the Day of Resurrection, and lead them into the Fire,
and wretched is the place he will lead them to.

They were followed with a curse in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection.
And, wretched is the curse that befalls them in both worlds.

That is the information regarding the cities that God has relayed to you.  And,
of them, some are still standing, and some were mowed down like a harvest.

And, God did not wrong them, they wronged their ownselves.
And, they were not helped by the partners they called upon, other than God,
when there came His Command.  And, these others did not help them,
other than in ruin.

And, thus is God's punishment when He overcomes the cities when they
are commiting evil.  Indeed, God's punishment is severe and painful.

Indeed, in this are Signs for those who fear the punishment of the Hereafter.
It will be a Day when all the people will be gathered, and that
will be a Day Witnessed.

And, He will not delay it, but for a limited term.

And, on the Day, no soul will speak except by God's permission.
And, among them will be the wretched, as well as the prosperous.

And, those who are evil will be destined for the Fire.  Therein,
they will have sobs and sighs.

They will abide therein as longs as the Heavens and the earth remain, except
what God should Will otherwise.  Indeed, God does do as He intends.

And, as for those who were righteous, they will be in Paradise, abiding therein
until the Heavens and the earth remain, except what God should Will otherwise -
a gift everlasting.

So, do not be in Doubt, O Muhammad, about what the polytheists are worshipping.
They worship nothing but what their fathers worshipped.  And, indeed,
God, will give them what they deserve.

And, God gave Moses the Scripture, but it came under some disagreement.
And, if not from a Word from your Lord God, it would have been judged already between them.  And, they are concerning it in disquieting debate.

And, indeed, to each person, God will compensate them for their deeds, and misdeeds.
Verily, He is well acquainted with what they do.

So, remain on the Right Path as commanded to you by your Lord God,
and do not turn back, nor transgress.
Indeed, He is Seeing of all that you do.

And, do not incline toward those who do evil, less you be consumed by the Fire.
And, you will have none to help you, or to protect you, other than Allah,
and you will not be helped.

And, establish regular prayers at dawn and at dusk, and at the approach of nightfall.
Indeed, good deeds will replace the bad deeds you do.
That is a reminder for those who remember Allah.

And, be steadfast in Faith, for indeed, God does not allow the reward
of those who do good to be lost.

So, why weren't the generations before you of enduring discrimination -
prohibiting corruption on earth - except the few that God spared from among them?
But, those who did evil, and pursued all the luxuries they were given,
they were of the wrongdoers.

And, God would not have overcome those civilizations,
while the people were repentant, and willing to change.

And, if God had so Willed, He would have made mankind one single community,
but they will never cease to differ between themselves,
except whom your Lord has bestowed His Mercy,
and for that He did create them.

But, God's Word will be fulfilled, and those who are deserving of the Fire,
"He will fill the Fire with Jinn and mankind all together."

And, every story Allah has relayed to you, provided by the Messengers,
should be firmly understood in your hearts.
And, there has to come to from these stories, The Truth,
as well as instruction and reminders for those who Believe.

And, say to those who DisBelieve, "Toil according to what is ordained for you,
and I will work for what is for me."

And wait, indeed, for we are also patiently waiting."

And, to God belongs all the unseen and the seen of the Heavens and the earth.
And, to Him, all will be returned to Him.
So worship Him, and rely on Him alone.
And, your Lord God is not unaware of what you do in life.

Amen
